BS BookWorms
A book club for people from in and around Bishops Stortford. Meet bi-weekly to review what your reading and to share observations. Help you meet and get to know people in the area. We will meet in a local (quiet) bar from 8-10. We will generate a list of books for all of us to read and then discuss going forward. Get in touch and we can decide when and where our first meeting will take place.
BS-Barter
This is a bartering club. The idea is that you trade one thing for another and no money changes hands.
For example,
1:
You may want a ride to the airport and in
exchange you will cut the grass in my garden on an agreed date.
2:
You may have computer games or DVDs you no longer need but want to exchange for others or a bottle of wine or lessons in IT or something of broadly equal value in your eyes.
3:
You may have a spare room and would offer someone the room in exchange for light housework or a set amount of carer/companion hours per week.
4:
You may have skills in design, therapy, entertainment, plumbing, electrical, PC, etc. that you can exchange for a couple of hours in exchange for something you want but can't afford on your budget.
5:
You may like dog walking and exchange that for some home made cakes or a pie or two if the walking is regular, etc.
THESE ARE JUST SAMPLE IDEAS; THINK OF OTHERS...
Send me your offers and I will advertise on here once a week to local readers; tell me
1: What you want to exchange
2: What you want to receive
3: Or, just put it out there and see what others
will exchange for your offer...
4: How you can be contacted (provide an email
address or mobile#)
The possibilities are endless and try not to stick to exchanging items for items. Think more broadly about what you want and what you can give in exchange in more practical terms. These are harsh times economically and this is a way of finding what you need without parting with ANY of your hard earned cash. There will be something for everyone, if everyone joins in the initiative.
Give it a try....

4th Friern Barnet Brownies
Brownies the section of GirlGuiding UK for girls aged seven to ten.
Brownies become a member of a six such as Badger, Fox, Mole, Squirrel, Hedgehog and Rabbit and follow a programme called the Brownie Adventure. The name reflects the world of exciting opportunities, challenges and fun that is Brownies.
Girls can participate in a wide range of activities at their regular meetings, and at special events, day trips, sleepovers, camps and holidays. They can find themselves trying out arts and crafts or recipes, playing energetic games, taking part in community action projects, or zooming down zip wires at one of our activity centres.
Girls can also extend their knowledge and abilities by working towards Brownie interest badges covering many different hobbies and activities from Science investigator to Circus skills.
Fourth Friern Barnet Guides
Fourth Friern Barnet Guides are a Guide unit, based in Friern Barnet, North London. We meet on Tuesday nights to play games, try new activities, make friends, help our community and have fun. We go on holiday as a unit each year camping in the summer, and somewhere indoors when it's colder.
Guides are aged between 10 and 14, and a lot of us were Brownies before becoming Guides, but you don't have to have been a Brownie first. We wear a uniform, and at the moment special neckers to show that we're celebrating the Centenary. Guides are 100 years old this year, and we're looking forward to celebrating that in as many ways as possible over the next 12 months.
What do Guides do? Being a Guide is all about learning new skills, making your own decisions and having fun. Guiding provides a safe environment to explore new possibilities and achieve personal goals while making friends and having adventures. And it’s up to each Guide to work out which opportunities are relevant for her, whether it’s improving her football skills, party planning or learning about independent living.
•Guides work together in Patrols. They elect their own Patrol Leader and are encouraged to plan their own activities. Patrols provide a ready-made group of friends and helps the girls to feel that they belong to something special.
•Any girl aged ten to 14 who wishes to, can become a Guide.
•Each Guide chooses the top she wants to wear from the options available in the Guide wear collection. This choice allows Guides to be themselves but also makes them feel part of the unit.
