Dist:0.1km<br/>Rosemount Square (actually horse shoe shaped) was a social experiment which grew from an exploration of what a modern tenement could be like, a far cry from the then typical tenement building of the Scottish cities. The building was inspired by visits to social housing in Europe. Rosemount Square was largely designed by Leo Durnin under Alexander Buchanan Gardner at the City Architect’s Department. It is one of the last granite load bearing buildings in Aberdeen (as opposed to using a steel frame). It is Grade A listed. Included in the building cost were three sculptured panels by Thomas Huxley-Jones representing Rain [[2216250]], Wind [[2216246]] and Cold but only Wind and Rain were completed, in an effort to save money. The tenements often have "backies" or back greens, formerly built for drying clothes and also housing coal sheds and the wash-house. In the middle distance are the skyscraper flats of Mounthooly and Gallowgate.

Dist:0.2km<br/>This old well has been moved several times. It's now in the wee garden at the back of the Central Library but earlier it was built into the wall of Woolmanhill Hospital in Spa Street. There even was a Spa Bar there. First records place the well in George Jameson's "Four Neukit Garden" - a location for plays where Shakespeare might once have performed.

On the far side of Skene Street are the back sides of the HM Theatre, St Mark's Church and the Central Library ("Education, Salvation and Damnation"!). On the skyline are the monstrosity of the new Town House, the Mither Kirk and the red brick Triple Kirks.
