Dist:0.6km<br/>There was a church at Rise by 1221 but older church buildings here seem to have suffered centuries of neglect. In the 19th century the Church of All Saints, formerly St Mary's, was demolished and the current one built by local landowner Richard Bethell to designs by R D Chantrell. According to a plaque in the porch the first stone of the building was laid on 1st July 1844 and the church was consecrated on 12th November 1845. Some 12th to 14th century stonework was reused in the building. The former Rectory House was bought and occupied by local landowners the Bethell family by 1946 when they gave up the larger Rise Hall which was let to the Canonesses Regular of St. Augustine, who ran a Roman Catholic boarding and day school for girls there until 1989. A Rectory House with four hearths existed here in 1672. It was largely rebuilt in the early 19th century and has been much remodelled since. Dist:0.8km<br/>Most of the original houses near the church in the tiny village of Rise were removed by the Bethell family with the creation of Rise Park and the extension of its woods. Replacement houses including this one at New Rise were built by Richard Bethell in the early to mid 19th century.
