Dist:0.4km<br/>At Walcott beach. When the tide is out it is often possible to have a closer look at the groynes that are partially submerged at high tide. They are covered with algae and seaweed, and pebbles have become lodged in the gaps between the planks. Groynes are wooden or stone constructions built into the sea in order to stop sand and pebbles from being moved by the tide waters and hence to stabilise and protect the beach. They also help > [[677470]]. Wooden groynes are no longer being made.
