Dist:0.3km<br/>This is the highest of the nine locks on the Huddersfield Broad, or Sir John Ramsden's, canal. They were built to take Yorkshire keels or short boats, with dimensions not exceeding 58ft x 14ft 2ins. Hand spikes, rather than a windlass, were used to raise the paddles on many of these locks.

Dist:0.3km<br/>The bridge is seen from the east. It carries a right of way on foot, a pleasant way of reaching Woodhouse Hill.

Dist:0.3km<br/>A footpath in 1850, with only a narrow bridge shown on the 1850 map. The road was probably set out and the bridge widened to allow the area to be developed, but this did not occur until the second half of the 20C. In the mid-20C the broad road in the foreground was still only a path.
