Dist:0.3km<br/>This station was opened in 1860 and was then known as "Wellington College for Crowthorne"; Wellington College is a very short distance away and the station was used for transportation of building materials during the building of the school. The name of the station was changed to Crowthorne after the Second World War. Crowthorne High Street is about a mile distant.

Dist:0.3km<br/>The very sad state of the railway station in 1977 in the 'good old days' of British Rail. Apart from the metal shed for cycles on the right, the station layout is the same today (2007) though a small brick building provides a waiting shelter. Hanging baskets of flowers (albeit, artificial) decorate the platforms. The vandalism is now nothing like as bad as in this photograph. The station was unmanned but now there is a ticket office open for short periods in the day; a ticket machine provides the service 'out of office hours'. The trees have mostly gone and have been replaced by apartment buildings.

Dist:0.4km<br/>This siren, close to Crowthorne Station, is one of several in the local area used to warn of escapes from Broadmoor Secure Hospital. Every Monday at 10am the sirens are tested, which comes as a considerable surprise to strangers in the vicinity!

Dist:0.4km<br/>The tarmac area would have been the approach to the railway station many years ago but now serves the businesses that inhabit the former station building. The apartment building at centre stands just about where the railway siding was; this is St Francis Close. When the station opened in the 19th century the siding was used to transport building materials for the construction of Wellington College and then, during the 20th century, for household coal etc.

Dist:0.6km<br/>100 Wellingtonia trees ("Sequoiadendron giganteum") were planted in 1863 in memory of the Duke Of Wellington, whose estate, Stratfield Saye is a few miles away. The road is the B3348 that leads into Dukes Ride and thence to Crowthorne about a mile and a half away. The area behind this viewpoint is the National Trust property, The Ridges.
