Screenprinting II with Michael Carlo

Screenprinting involves pushing ink through a stencil prepared on a fine-mesh fabric. It is one of the most versatile printmaking techniques, particularly for colour work. This course offers a complete introduction to the medium, covering the production of hand-drawn stencils. A painterly approach is emphasised and original drawings are welcomed. Like many other studios, Gainsborough’s House now uses only water based acrylic inks, eliminating the unpleasant and hazardous fumes produced by solvents.
Michael Carlo has taught highly successful courses in screenprinting for several years. Educated at the Royal College of Art, he grew up in Sudbury and his own prints focus on the landscape around his home in Suffolk. Michael’s enthusiasm for working directly onto screens leads to very free and direct imagery in his printmaking. Read more »

The four members of (more) Growling Old Men will be very familiar to British bluegrass fans. The half-English, half-American quartet has toured twice in the UK and all four have taught at Sore Fingers at least once. Featuring Leon Hunt on banjo, Dom Harrison on bass, Ben Winship on mandolin and John Lowell on guitar, the band has now taken its act one step further and produced the recently released album, "Shuttle Diplomacy".
The history of the band stretches back quite some time. Leon and Dom have been working together for years as members of Daily Planet, and Ben and John have played together in various groups including Kane’s River and, of course, Growling Old Men. The collaboration between the two halves has been in the works since the late 1990s. This short tour coincides with their headlining appearance at the Didmarton Blueghrass Festival.£9.00 17 available
