Dist:0.2km<br/>Taken from near the clock tower. Great Whyte iself is notable for being eighty feet wide. Its great width was the result of the culverting of the open waterway once navigable by small boats that used to run down the centre of this thoroughfare.

Dist:0.2km<br/>High Lode is a wide drainage channel that flows into the River Old Nene at Saunder's Bridge, a mile or so to the north. Beyond the culvert entrances seen here, its waters flow for a quarter of a mile or so beneath Great Whyte, one of Ramsey's main thoroughfares, and re-emerge just south of High Street. The section of watercourse between this point (known as Ramsey Docks) and its source near Wistow is called Bury Brook. Culverting was carried out between 1852-4 prior to which a navigable waterway existed beside Great Whyte.

Dist:0.3km<br/>The piece of wasteground seen here is the site of the former Ramsey (North) railway station. This was the terminus of the Great Northern branch line that linked Ramsey with Holme, a former junction station on what is now the East Coast Main Line. The line opened in 1863, lost its passenger service in 1947 and was closed completely in 1970. Ramsey was also served by a second branch line which terminated at Ramsey (East) station elsewhere in the town.
