Dist:0.1km<br/>A profusion of road signs and street furniture greets the motorist at this busy mini-roundabout at the junction of Watling Street with Shenley Hill. Viewed looking southwards along the Roman Road this was the old A5 but was downgraded to the A5183 some time ago. The stone column of Radlett's War Memorial is just visible to the left of the roundabout in front of the shops.

Dist:0.3km<br/>Prior to the Midland Railway arriving in Radlett and building the station in the 1860s, the settlement was nothing more than a few buildings serving the local estates of the landed gentry. These fine flint and brick cottages date from 1852 and so pre-date the railway. They were built by the Phillimore family, presumably to house estate workers. Now they are used by several small commercial concerns, one of which just happens to be a photographer's studio. Dist:0.4km<br/>The station was built in 1868 by the Midland Railway. The station was rebuilt in the 1970s but the three shelters over the cycle racks with their fine latticework are a reminder of the old style of railway architecture. This is the Station Approach side of the station, with the black glass building housing the ticket office and a waiting room.
