Dist:0.1km<br/>There is much of relevance in this picture: The South West Coastal Path crosses this path, as evidenced on the granite signpost - Penberth to the left and Porthgwarra to the right; the diamond-shaped sign indicates the presence of underground cables, of which there are many buried under the beach, this place being the landfall of many cables under the Atlantic Ocean and the small building houses the terminals of these cables.

Dist:0.3km<br/>Now a museum, the cable station was an important location during WWII and underground caverns were excavated into the hillside to protect the installation from aerial attack. This escape staircase provided an exit route in case of the portals being obstructed. The two signs in the foreground are warning visitors that swallows are nesting at the top of the stairs [[2522648]].
