Dist:0.4km north<br/>A familiar site of the Marches line, steel coil trains are normally Class 66 hauled. The down line signal warns of an approaching passenger train. Pontrilas was once a junction, the Golden Valley line to Hay-on-Wye leaving just beyond the signal box. Trains with timber from the Highlands sometimes use the siding in the foreground.

Dist:0.5km north<br/>175 005 with the 15:10 Arriva Trains Wales service from Milford Haven to Shrewsbury passes through the village of Pontrilas. The name is welsh despite Pontrilas being in South Herefordshire. The name means "Bridge over three rivers".

Dist:1.1km northeast<br/>The parish church of Kenderchurch is dedicated to St Mary and is located to the north-east of Pontrilas. The church is situated on a small hill overlooking a saw mill. Oddly the name of Kenderchurch does not appear on the OS Map.
