The limestone quarries in this area had their own branch line railway which linked up with the railway still operational from the quarries south east of Buxton. The embankment is now used as a farm track and footpath.

Dist:0.2km<br/>This was on a part of the line that became disused after the Hurdlow deviation came into use in 1869, avoiding Hurdlow incline. When the LNWR Ashbourne to Buxton line was built in the 1890s, most of the rest of the original line north of the new junction at Parsley Hay was also abandoned. What was not became sidings to limestone workings.

Dist:0.2km<br/>The two main features of this gridsquare are to be seen here. Hurdlow is a much smaller community than the name suggests, while Cronkston Low on the right rises to 415 metres above sea level and is topped by a tumulus.
