The church has a late 11th century nave and a 14th century west tower. Although Poling is not mentioned in the Domesday Book Paling(e) is recorded in 1199, and the Polynge in the early 14th century.

Dist:0.2km<br/>It was a surprise to find this modest grave of the famous cricketer, so long connected with Kent, in an out-of-the-way Sussex churchyard.

Dist:0.2km<br/>Said to be pre-conquest. The gravestone in the centre foreground is of the cricketer Colin Cowdray, his second marriage was to the eldest daughter of the 16th Duke of Norfolk, the family have a castle and estate just up the road at Arundel.
