Village on the edge of Edinburgh. It's not quite swallowed up, but the southern housing developments of the city are very close. As well as these older houses there is some mid 20th Century municipal housing.

The name is believed to be a corruption of Bordeaux House from the time when French ladies-in-waiting to Mary, Queen of Scots lived in the village while she resided at Craigmillar Castle in 1561.
