Dist:0.3km<br/>Very unusually for a main line station in the UK, passengers are allowed to cross the tracks here. It is the only way to reach platform 2. The station is a 'dead-end', with a rarely-used inverse-Y shaped set of tracks http://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/2526448 beyond the level crossing. All trains leave the station the same way they entered.

Dist:0.3km<br/>This is the view NE along the platform to the end of the lines, just under the road bridge. The railway used to cross the river and continue towards Abergwili and northwards. Part of the line in the Gwili valley has now been restored and is a tourist attraction.

Dist:0.3km<br/>View southward, towards Carmarthen Junction - thence east to Llanelly, Swansea etc., west to Whitland and Pembroke Dock/Milford Haven/Neyland and Fishguard Harbour; ex-GWR South Wales/West Wales main line. In the northerly direction, in 1962 trains still ran to Llandilo (until 9/9/63) and to Aberystwyth (until 22/2/65, goods to Felin Fach until 1/10/73), but since then it has been a terminal station. I and a friend travelled on the 16.40 from Swansea behind this 4-6-0, No. 5938 'Stanley Hall' (built 7/33, withdrawn 5/63). It left Swansea late and as we wanted to make a tight connection at Carmarthen, we gave the driver a good tip, so he drove very hard, gave us a lively run and arrived here on time!

Dist:0.3km<br/>View northward - at that time towards Aberystwyth but since 2/65 the station has been a terminus; ex-GW South Wales main lines, reversing at Carmarthen. (See also [[[2475524]]]). The train is headed by 4-6-0 No. 7804 'Baydon Manor' (built 2/38, withdrawn 9/65).

Dist:0.3km<br/>Viewed along Station Approach. The station is located on the south bank of the River Towy. Formerly, railway lines crossed the Towy beyond the NE edge of the station, but Carmarthen is now a 'dead-end' station (but not technically a terminus). All trains arrive from the SW and depart in the same direction. They are then routed in the correct direction at the triangular-shaped Carmarthen Junction, 600 metres away.
