This is the Dean House end, the lane comes from Forest Hill Road. It is now a bridleway.

Dist:0.1km<br/>Farmhouse near the southern end of Dean House Lane on the western slopes of Broom Hill, Stainland Moor.

Dist:0.2km<br/>The valley sides have steep parts and even steeper parts like this one, due to the different types of rock. These steep slopes may have been grazed by sheep at one time, but are now colonised by heather, bilberry , bracken and small trees including holly.

Dist:0.2km<br/>Taken from across the valley of Red lane Dike. The buildings are at the top of the gentler slope that has been made into fields, probably never used for anything but grass. Above is a steep uncultivated slope, above which are more fields. The valley bottom is woodland, which extends well up the steep western side.

Dist:0.4km<br/>The houses on the right are called Glen View on the 6 inch map, and are urban in style. On the left are some of the houses that have replaced Upper Firth House Mills. The far hillside is in Barkisland.

Dist:0.4km<br/>The wood is Hey Wood, and the far side of Red Lane Dike is in Scammonden, an ancient holding called Hey. The building left of centre was hey Farm, which became the Shoulder of Mutton pub before being converted to houses. The distant valley is that of the Black Brook, which goes up to Scammonden Dam.

Dist:0.4km<br/>The bottom of the waterfall on Hey Croft Clough, which tumbles under a stone bridge on the overgrown public footpath west of Hey Wood.
