Dist:0.2km north<br/>The valley sides have steep parts and even steeper parts like this one, due to the different types of rock. These steep slopes may have been grazed by sheep at one time, but are now colonised by heather, bilberry , bracken and small trees including holly.

Dist:0.2km north<br/>Taken from across the valley of Red lane Dike. The buildings are at the top of the gentler slope that has been made into fields, probably never used for anything but grass. Above is a steep uncultivated slope, above which are more fields. The valley bottom is woodland, which extends well up the steep western side.

Dist:0.4km north<br/>The wood is Hey Wood, and the far side of Red Lane Dike is in Scammonden, an ancient holding called Hey. The building left of centre was hey Farm, which became the Shoulder of Mutton pub before being converted to houses. The distant valley is that of the Black Brook, which goes up to Scammonden Dam.
