The manor of Patrington was given by King Athelstan to the Archbishops of York around 933 AD. In 1033 King Canute confirmed the grant, though there is no mention of a church at that time. The first confirmation of a church comes in the late 13th and early 14th century when the current building was constructed. It is possible that the church was created by a family of master masons, the most prominent of whom was Robert de Patryngton, who was named as Master of the Works at York Minster in 1369.

St Patrick's church with its 189 foot spire is the most prominent building in the region. It is grade 1 listed (List Entry Number 1083450). Note the half-timbered house on the corner of the High Street in the foreground.

Patrington Church spire is currently under repair. Some damage was done to it following a minor earthquake in the area in 2008. The spire dwarfs the array of scaffolding on it - I'm glad I wasn't the scaffolder/steeplejack responsible for its construction!

This splendid church has so many aspects to see it's difficult to choose what to photograph. This photo shows the morning sun lighting up the aisle and the simple, but beautiful vaulting above.

A photograph taken from my Cody Kite at around 150feet. This was the last photo taken before the February earthquake damaged the spire. The church is now under wraps having repairs.
