It was the box pews that gave the church the end of the 18th century atmosphere that appealed to Disney when they chose it for location scenes for their 1962 film "Doctor Syn, alias The Scarecrow".

Dist:0.3km<br/>This is a very old church. The main building is reputedly 12th C but with remnants of a structure some hundreds of years earlier. Significantly the yew Taxus baccata is known to live to a great age. It's often the case that a church was constructed because the tree had been a sheltered site of worship since earlier times, rather than the tree being planted in the shelter of the church.

Dist:0.3km<br/>The charming interior looks like something out of a film set. That's because it is, in part. The grey of the box pews was replaced by a pale pastel pink for a Dr. Syn film and all the work was paid for by the Rank Organisation. The other fittings are wonderful too; the font, memorial plates, the Royal arms and not forgetting the views of the Marsh through the clear unstained windows. One might imagine oneself in days of yore, or in a costume drama.
