Dist:0.2km<br/>The M54 motorway was built in the 1970's, not very well, with a concrete carriageway. For many years the driving public had to put up with the impression of driving on a railway track. It was eventually decided that it needed to be virtually re-built. The section from junction 5 westward was done in 1997, it took over five years to complete the whole job to the end of the motorway. This photo is looking East and shows the turnoff for Telford centre.[[1315495]]

Dist:0.3km<br/>Junction 5 on the M54 is really very odd. Shoehorned into a restricted site and configured with a single roundabout off the line of motorway serving both sets of slip roads and the connecting ordinary roads. In concept, it is similar to toll road exits common in France and the USA, or some very early UK motorway junction designs.

Dist:0.4km<br/>Recycling at its best, the ironwork on this footbridge was originally cast in 1818 for a bridge at Cound in Shropshire, built by the great Thomas Telford. Rescued and reused in this footbridge which leads to one of Telford's retail parks from the town centre.
