Dist:0.5km<br/>Built to carry the long gone Somerset & Dorset Railway. [[[185606]]] shows the same bridge from the other side. This image was included to illustrate the different materials used, the original build was with stone probably from local quarries, then came repair work using the very dark engineering bricks, these appear to have been made from copper slag and are waterproof and very durable. They were widely used on the railways from about 1850 to the end of the century. The repair work in clay brick is probably since around 1900.

Dist:0.6km<br/>This old railway bridge carried the Somerset and Dorset Joint railway, and was known as Portway Bridge. It crossed the junction of Portway lane with King's lane and Turner's Court lane.

Dist:0.7km<br/>Now you railway lovers, prepare to shed a tear for all that remains of the Slow and Dirty as it was affectionately called. Running from Bath Green Park it went south through Midford, Wellow, Radstock, Midsomer Norton, such wonderful names, passing here before continuing to Shepton Mallet eventually arriving at Weymouth. Rails and trackbed have long gone from this short stretch but it remains fenced off to allay its spirit.
