Dist:1.1km northwest<br/>This photograph shows a snow-laden field near Hangmans Lane. As it makes its way towards the B1404 road, the lane passes by the communications mast seen on the right-hand side of the horizon. The mast is a useful navigational feature for walkers following the route of the Great North Forest Trail. This photograph was taken looking from near Thristley House Farm in a south-westerly direction towards Hetton-le-Hole.

Here (between Ryhope and South Hetton) it follows a long length of the disused railway, crossing the A19 at this point. There was a time (pre 1960s)when a large proportion of working men cycled to and from work. The figure on the bridge must be one of few survivors of this breed.
