Oakes Homepage


I associate this chain with town centres, but here is one on a main road in the suburbs. I have put it in Quarmby rather than Lindley because the old township division boundary runs behind the building.

Dist:0.2km<br/>This early 19C turnpike road soon became lined with a ribbon development of houses, shops and pubs through what was the township of Lindley cum Quarmby, but eventually became part of the County Borough of Huddersfield.

Dist:0.2km<br/>Different ways of lighting bedrooms on the second floor; a big old house with a room in a gable, and next to it a gabled dormer window echoed in the modern house to the right. To the left a modern flat-roofed dormer window on a stone-built terrace house, and at the right edge of the view a velux window which gives light but no extra headroom.
