Dist:1.0km west<br/>Public vehicular access is not allowed, though this has been subject to several public inquiries in the past. The most recent in 2007 (Ref: FPS/P2745/7/14M) concluded that vehicular access along an area called Oak Avenue would not be granted. However Nun Appleton Estate did agree to an extension of the bridleway to enable it to link up with Dam Lane. The current version of the OS map shows a bridleway at SE548408 but no way of accessing it. When I arrived at Oak Lodge there were no signs to indicate a bridleway, but I assumed that the agreement of 2007 is still in place and continued on my walk to Appleton Roebuck via Oak Avenue.

Dist:1.1km south<br/>Though rebuilt in 1898 by Hodgson Fowler, who added the weather boarded bell-turret, this church is principally of two phases, the chancel is late saxon or early norman, the rest is C14th. Inside there are monuments to Sir Robert Ryther (died 1327) and his wife;& to Sir William Ryther (died 1475).
