Dist:0.2km north<br/>This site was originally the Liverpool Lighterage Co. but from 1972 was owned by British waterways Board. There was a maintenance slipway with a series of interconnected winches driven by a Foden steam engine in the shed. This was latterly disconnected and replaced by a tramway motor with controller. The engine was removed in 1987 and is now on display at the National Waterways Museum, Gloucester.

Dist:0.4km north<br/>Now open regularly as a visitor attraction and home to a pair of horizontal single cylinder gas engines driving reciprocating pumps. I think they were originally hot-tube but later converted to spark ignition. It was a bitterly cold morning and the engine that was runnable resisted vigorous attempts to coax it into life.

Dist:0.4km north<br/>This early reinforced concrete building was built as the offices of the Cheshire Brine Compensation Board. A Brine (Subsidence) Compensation Act was passed in 1891 to allow compensation to owners of buildings damaged by subsidence caused by the pumping of 'wild brine'. The building is now used as a solicitor's office. The Brine Board is still in existence, though no 'wild brine' is now pumped. The building is on what is now called Chester Way.
