Dist:0.2km north<br/>The B3335 road descends Coxs Hill on its way out of Twyford village towards the M3 junction. The house down the road is called "The Lodge" and looks like a gatehouse for Twyford Lodge, although Church Lane (which runs parallel to this piece of road) cuts across the 'drive' from the little Lodge to the larger Lodge. When this road bends to the left (as per the warning sign) it meets the junction with the north end of Church Lane.

Dist:0.5km north<br/>A three storey brick water mill with tiled roof built in 1803 and adjoining barn (now converted into houses). The mill still contains a working iron Poncelet style waterwheel which drives an unusual horizontal timber mainshaft designed to primarily drive barn machinery. Two pairs of Millstone Grit stones remain and the mostly wooden machinery for their operation is intact although not used. Dist:0.5km north<br/>A view of the graveyard to the north of the church of St Mary the Virgin, taken from beneath the ancient clipped yew tree. It has been claimed that the yew is over 1000 years old, although a more conservative estimate of 450 years was given in 1988 by the Yew Tree Conservation Foundation. This would make it contemporary with the rebuilding of the Norman church in 1402. [Information from http://www.twyfordpc.hants.gov.uk/ ]

Dist:0.6km north<br/>There are the remains of a Bronze Age stone circle beneath the modern church of St Mary the Virgin at Twyford. Local tradition maintains that a druidical temple stood here before the first Christian Church (a Saxon building). When the old Church was taken down in 1878, twelve druid stones were found at the foundations of the Norman tower, and are still there.

Dist:0.6km north<br/>Berry Lane leads from Berry Bridge over the River Itchen up to Church Lane in Twyford. Lying in the nettles to the right of the path are a pair of sarsen stones, possibly connected with the "druidical temple" that tradition says once occupied a site close to the church. Twelve sarsen stones lay at the foundation of the tower of the original Norman church, and were re-positioned and re-used when the new church (visible above the trees in this photo) was built.

Dist:0.6km north<br/>This pair of sarsen stones lie in the nettles alongside Berry Lane as it approaches Bury Bridge over the River Itchen. The stones are associated with village legend of a "druidic religious site" in the Twyford area - there is a sarsen stone circle nearby, buried beneath [[182803]].

Dist:0.6km west<br/>This is one of the crossing points across the River Itchen at Twyford. As the sign says, the wide bridge is a Private Bridge. The footpath crosses the river on the footbridge immediately to the right of the Private Bridge (with white handrails). The footpath leads to Compton Lock across the water meadows.
