An impressive array of upper quadrant semaphore signals at Eastleigh Parkway Station on the Eastleigh Lakeside Railway. The dual gauge of the track can be seen clearly. The innermost rail provides an alternative gauge of 7¼ inches (184 mm) allowing smaller locomotives to be used when required. The loco in this picture is 70055 “Rob Roy”, a 10¼ inch (260 mm) gauge scale replica of a British Railways Class 7P Britannia Pacific, which is approximately one-fifth the size of the real thing. The full size “Rob Roy” was the last of the class to be constructed by British Railways and entered service in 1954.

On second thoughts, probably some lads in a car were trying to escape the police by driving along the footpath through Lakeside Country Park. Perhaps they didn't know that a new gate had been erected here, where the footpath joins the byway. The gate held. Then someone in authority said "get me a bloody great rock...".

The line is dual gauge so that both 10¼ inch and 7¼ inch gauge locomotives can be used. This makes the pointwork complicated though.

Dist:0.3km<br/>This is the eastern portal of the 70 metre long tunnel on the miniature railway, through which the lower track runs. The tunnel was completed in 2003 some eleven years after the first tracks on the railway were laid. Note the electric signal and the triple rail trackwork which allows the railway to run both 7¼" and 10¼" gauge trains.
