Dist:0.4km<br/>Houghton Lodge and its grounds have been used as locations for several television costume dramas and films, including the BBC adaptation of David Copperfield, and the film 'Wilde' about the life of Oscar Wilde starring Stephen Fry, and Jude Law. The house was built about 1800, probably by Nash for the Pitt-Rivers family as a fishing lodge, and is one of the earliest examples of the Cottage Orné style of architecture. Grade II* Listed.

Dist:0.4km<br/>Pre-eminent amongst Britain's chalk streams, and renowned throughout the world for its fly fishing, the River Test flows through the grounds of Houghton Lodge. The landing stage in the distance to the left of the hut, was a leftover from one of the many film sets created here, at this idyllic of locations.

Dist:0.4km<br/>Houghton Lodge has a significance quite disproportionate to its size, a building of architectural and historic importance. Built sometime before 1799 and probably intended as a fishing lodge, it is one of the earliest examples of a Cottage Orné or Rural Retreat. The extensive grounds which include water meadows and informal gardens in an idyllic setting by the River Test, are quite outstanding.

Dist:0.4km<br/>Spring is rather late this year at Houghton Lodge, probably on account of the harsh winter weather here in the south. This time two years ago spring flowers like daffodils were in full bloom, whilst this year most are still in bud, and winter flowers like snowdrops are still extant.

Dist:0.9km<br/>The Test Way is a 44 mile long-distance walking route that takes you from its start, high on the chalk downs at Inkpen, and it follows much of the course of the River Test to Eling where its tidal waters flow into Southampton Water. These pictures follow part of route from Houghton to Stockbridge.
