Dist:0.3km<br/>This is North Fambridge Station on the Crouch Valley line. This railway enabled the Dengie Peninsula from Southminster to South Woodham Ferrers to develop into London commuter land. The only reason this single track line (double in the stations) was allowed to escape the Beeching axe was its role shipping plutonium to Aldermasteron and spent fuel rods to Sellafield from the [[35708]]. A fact the history of the line at http://www.esscrp.org.uk/crouch_valley_line/history/history.php seems to omit. Photo was taken looking eastbound.

Dist:0.4km<br/>The "Cockney Coaster" steam special heading for Southminster waits for the preserved class 306 electric multiple unit to clear the single line. The EMU was running on the regular branch service for the day. These units had very bouncy seats. They could out-accelerate later units up the hill from Liverpool Street, being lower geared and not as fast.

The reserve was purchased in 1998 by the Essex Wildlife Trust http://www.essexwt.org.uk/visitor_centres__nature_reserves/blue_house_farm/ . The farm covers an area of 600 acres and is an SSSI. It is a working stock farm run with wildlife management in mind. The farm is the winter home for some 2000 Brent Geese.
