Newly built campus for Queen Margaret University, the first new university campus in Scotland in forty years. Sustainability has been very important in the design. Buildings gave been designed with natural a ventilation strategy and provide good access to natural daylight. Concrete has been used for heating / cooling purposes and energy consumption and heat generation have been reduced through the use of ‘thin client’ technology. Carbon emissions have been reduced by 75% using a biomass heating system and rainwater is harvested in a SUDS pond. Students are accommodated in this 'student village'.

Dist:0.3km<br/>Unused land inside the A1 Musselburgh by-pass at Newcraighall. No doubt it will one day be built upon, the field next door is being developed at the moment causing a diversion of the cyclepath. Now the campus for Queen Margaret University.

Dist:0.5km<br/>It dont look like this now ! The Monktonhall mine can be seen in the distance along with the site of Millerhill yards on the right. Now a wasteland this area used to have a large number of sidings. There is no electrification in this view to obstruct the view from the road bridge that led to Millerhill BR depot. It has changed since the picture was taken. loco 37200 heads away from Millerhill yard . The mine at Monktonhall is but a memory.

Dist:0.5km<br/>Tracks serving the freight depot on old colliery land. This is near the ill fated Monktonhall mine, that hung on after the destruction of the industry by the Conservative government in the 1980s. A management buy out, all was lost to geological problems later on.
