Dist:0.2km<br/>Built at the junction of the High Road and Green Lane in 1907 to the designs of George Baines and Son, renowned architects of several Baptist Churches, the church was erected in response to the rapid urbanization of Ilford around the turn of the century. Together with its Institute (out of sight to the rear in this photograph) the whole ensemble is a Grade II Listed Building. This listing was made, according to the English Heritage National database, on the basis that it has special architectural interest as an Edwardian Baptist church with an attached institute with high architectural quality and completeness. Specific qualities that the listing mentions are its prominent corner location, its red brick Perpendicular style elevations and bold tower, its tracery throughout with its Art Nouveau qualities, its interiors with their well surviving original fittings and roof structure, and the dramatic spatial arrangements inside the church. Dist:0.2km<br/>This contemporary-looking primary school was constructed in 2006 and completed in 2007. I forget the name of the school, but it is located on Winston Way just adjacent to the junctions of Seven Kings High Road and Green Lane, where the road becomes one-way. Apologies for the poor contrast and rather obstructed view - I took this from in the car!

Two have already been constructed over the last 2-3 years just out of shot to the left in this image, straddling the railway and one of which, Spectrum Towers, I have photographed here on Geograph! Dist:0.4km<br/>A public footpath between Sams Green and the Ilford High Road, crossing the Great Eastern Railway main line to East Anglia by a short footbridge, is shown on the Ordnance Survey map of 1897. As various railway companies gradually expanded the Ilford Depot alongside the main line through the 20th century the footbridge had to be extended and extended. Today the deck at the top, viewed here from the southern end, has a length of about 140 metres. Unfortunately for train spotters the white painted corrugated metal sheeting is continuous on both sides from one end to the other!

Dist:0.4km<br/>The main part of the church was built between 1829 and 1831 to the designs of James Savage, while the tower was added in 1866 as a memorial to John and Elizabeth Davis. One historic image that the photographer found elsewhere on the internet http://genpals.co.uk/blog/st-marys-church-ilford/ shows that the tower once supported a steeple about two-thirds its own size. Although it is Locally Listed, perhaps surprisingly it is not a Listed Building on the English Heritage National List. The church is set firmly in the Catholic Tradition of the Church of England. It's called Spectrum Towers, and is located on the left side of Hainault Street immediately after the railway bridge. Dist:0.4km<br/>A small part of the sprawling depot, between Ilford and Seven Kings stations. It is interesting that the train on the near left is still in the old Silverlink livery. Silverlink passed away in 2007 when London Overground took over their franchises.
