The MAD Foundation is a family run charity and everyone can get involved.
The MAD (Make A Difference) Foundation’s main objective is to advance education and aid in the relief of poverty in any part of the world. Its aim is not simply to donate money but to invest in projects that will empower and support local communities.
The MAD Foundation through partnering with villages has already built over 100 Schools and we need to build over 1000 more across the developing world over the next 5 years. It has also helped build clinics, over 100 village toilets and many other community development projects that have helped advance education for 1000’s of kids and helped towards alleviating poverty.
If you fancy a light-hearted interesting evening where you will be transported around the world with the MAD Foundation, join us on Wednesday 23rd February from 7pm until 8pm in The Parish Hall.
Hope to see you soon,

Hexham Taxi company goes from strength to strength
A Northumberland based taxi company has laughed in the face of troubled economic times and built a business from nothing to become one of the areas major taxi companies.
In the current economic climate it’s a refreshing sight to see local companies staying afloat. It’s even more refreshing to see a new company flourish. That’s exactly what Advanced Taxis of Hexham have accomplished. In February of 2008 when the country’s economics were going downhill faster than an Olympic tobogganing team, a small group of taxi drivers decided to start a new company, and so Advanced Taxis was born.
Disillusioned with the sale of the company that they were working for, seven of the drivers put their heads and resources together and formed their own company. Over the next two years this company has gone from strength to strength, flying in the face of adversity, to become one of the areas largest and busiest taxi companies.
Speaking from their Hexham office one of Advanced Taxis’s managing partners said, “It’s been a fantastic couple of years. We have built a company from scratch which can now boast a fleet of 4 seater and 7 seater vehicles, wheelchair accessible vehicles, a female driver and a wedding car service amongst others. It has been hard work, a steep learning curve too as none of us had been outside the comfort of an established business, but well worth it. We now have several local companies on our books, a global energy supplier, local charities and local authorities also regularly use our services and have accounts with us. Coupled with this is a loyal local user base that has been built up by providing a reliable, helpful and friendly service to young and old alike”.
The visiting tourists also enjoy the courteous service afforded by Advanced Taxis. With their vast local knowledge, the travelling visitor can be in no better hands than those of an Advanced Taxis driver. Tours of Hadrian’s Wall are regularly arranged and other areas have also been covered such as Weardale and Cumbria. For those walking or cycling the Hadrian’s Wall Path a baggage and bicycle transfer service are available.
Having grown from nothing and flourished through difficult financial times, the future can only be bright for Advanced Taxis.

Hexham Taxi Company Drives Down Carbon Emissions
Minimising environmental impact in all areas of life is still at the forefront of everyone’s minds. So too with a Northumberland based taxi company. Advanced Taxis of Hexham has just taken delivery of one of the new low emission Skoda Octavia vehicles. These amazing cars manage to pull the performance of a 1.9 TDi engine from a 1.6 unit. This means that CO2 and particulate emissions are far reduced from there larger brothers and therefore have a much healthier influence on the environment.
Speaking from their Hexham office one of Advanced Taxis’s managing partners comments, “These new vehicles from Skoda are an ideal addition to our fleet. We are very much aware of the impact that motor vehicles have on the environment, and especially vehicles which accrue vast annual mileages such as taxis. This is a perfect opportunity to be seen doing our bit for the environment and reducing our carbon footprint”.

Calling all coffee beans: Save lives with a coffee and a cake
At Macmillan Cancer Support, we are rapidly approaching the World’s Biggest Coffee Morning, which is our most successful fundraising event of the year and takes place on Friday 24th September.
Every year the event raises an incredible £8 million for Macmillan’s services thanks to thousands of invaluable volunteers and celebrities like Lynda Bellingham and Paul O’Grady. Macmillan helps cancer sufferers by providing medical, emotional, practical and financial support. We want this year’s event to be bigger than ever to guarantee and develop this support.
Since it is such a major event, we are looking for a team of ‘coffee beans’ (ambassadors) to help us make the event even more successful. Each ambassador will represent Macmillan Cancer Support and the World’s Biggest Coffee Morning in their local area. Our supporters provide 99% of our income, so we need ambassador who will ensure continuing and new support from the public.
We are looking for a dynamic and creative ambassador who is professional and confident enough to go out and approach local residents to encourage as much local support as possible. Good telephone manner and being PC literate is also key, but each ambassador will be able to play to their strengths. Full training will also be given to each ambassador so there will be support from the very beginning to the very end.
Time is of the essence and we only ask that you can give as much as you can, whether it be a few hours a week after work or a full week day. The role is very flexible and we can work around you.
The areas we are focusing on are Newcastle City Centre, Whickham, Gosforth, Jesmond, Ponteland, Rowlands Gill and Gateshead City, but if none of these are your local area, you are still very welcome to get in touch if you have access to them.
If you’re interested in this exciting opportunity, we are holding a coffee morning-style recruitment evening on Thursday 29th April in Newcastle, venue to be confirmed. This is where you can learn more about Macmillan’s services to the community and ask any questions about the role as an ambassador, all over a cup of coffee and a cake!
Fancy a change this summer?
Macmillan Cancer Support is offering you the chance to be a major part of one of the UK’s most successful fundraising events. The World’s Biggest Coffee Morning is the perfect opportunity to get a hands on experience in areas like fundraising, events organisation, marketing, media and PR.
You will have numerous responsibilities, from organising your own fundraising event to giving presentations to the local community about what Macmillan does. You’ll be part of a supportive and lively team who will be happy to give you a reference at the end of the internship.
All you need to do is offer 3-5 days a week from 5 July to 8 October 2010. As you will be playing a vital role in the team, strong organisational skills and the ability to work in a group is key. Enthusiasm for the cause and ability to represent Macmillan Cancer Support is also essential. You’ll need to hold a full driving license and have free access to a car.
Every year more than a million people participate in our World’s Biggest Coffee Morning and raise an incredible £8 million for Macmillan’s services. Alice Woudhuysen, who took part in the internship, said:
“The internship gave me the skills, knowledge and experience that I needed to apply for my job and impress at interview stage. It also developed my confidence and team-working skills.”
Not only will you get fantastic experience, you’ll also be hugely helping people who are living with cancer. To apply, visit www.macmillan.org.uk/GetInvolved and download the application form for Newcastle or call our office on 01912 145 444. The application deadline is on 21 May 2010 – don’t miss out.
