Dist:0.2km<br/>Prior to the Newbiggin Bay Replenishment Project in 2007 the existing beach had badly deteriorated due to a combination of tidal erosion and subsidence under the bay, probably due to collapsed mine shafts. International sea defence specialists, Westminster Dredging Company Ltd. were commissioned to construct this breakwater, 200 metres long, and 300 metres offshore.
