The bridge was probably on its way out and this would have been the cheapest way to keep the Hornsea to Hull road open. The railway track forms part of a National cycle way.

Dist:0.4km<br/>A good pub is always popular, and so it is with the Railway Inn. Good food, good service, reasonable car park, and a restaurant as well as the bars. The photograph looks south across the road. Just a few metres behind the photographer is the track of the disused railway line between Hull and Hornsea, now a cycle track and part of the Hornsea to Southport Trans Pennine trail.

Dist:0.5km<br/>There was a manor at Langthorpe from 1066, possibly until the mid 19th century when Langthorpe Hall was used as a farm. The house was rebuilt in grey brick in about 1830, with the addition of a Tuscan portico in 1990-91.
