Dist:0.1km<br/>This depot, now occupied by a glazing company, was built for Nottingham's first trams, which were horse-drawn, in 1878. The tall doorway was to allow double-deck cars to enter. The extensive tramway network (not the same as the current NET system) was electrified in 1901 and larger depots built elsewhere in the city - at Bulwell, Sherwood, Parliament Street and Trent Bridge. Tram routes were converted to trolleybus operation in the 1930s; the trolleybuses were abandoned in the 1960s and replaced by diesel buses.

Dist:0.2km<br/>Viewed from the Ring Road bridge this 19-acre former gasworks site at Basford was the principal gas production facility for the City of Nottingham from 1854 to 1972 when the site stopped producing gas. After 1972 the site was used as a depot and training facility for British Gas. More recently the site has undergone an extensive soil washing process by the National Grid to remove contamination.
