Dist:0.2km<br/>Traffic queues at Staples Corner to join the A406 North Circular road from the southbound A5 Edgware Road. Volumes are probably enhanced by the approach of Christmas and the proximity of Brent Cross shopping centre. Behind is the flyover carrying through A5 traffic. The A406 through traffic is passing above me on a flyover which, in turn, is providing me with some shelter from the rain. The car dealer on the right is one of many on this part of the A5.

Dist:0.2km<br/>Staples Corner has spread itself somewhat from the simple intersection of the Edgware Road and North Circular Road. Through North Circular traffic now flies over the top, and on the other side of the railway bridge is the roundabout at the end of the M1. The railway is the main Midland line from St Pancras.

Dist:0.3km<br/>The southern end of the southbound carriageway of the motorway is here at its junction with the A406 North Circular Road, or to be more prescise it is where the white coach is coming down the hill in the distance. The road in the foreground is on the ground level roundabout of the A406.

Dist:0.3km<br/>A view of the roundabout at the junction of the A406 and A5 taken from one of the pedestrian walkways. The road deck at the top of the photo carries the A406 through traffic. One of the pedestrian walkways is visible above the bus and behind it is the viaduct carrying the St.Pancras to Leicester mainline as it passes over (and under) the A406. The 142 bus route from Brent Cross to Watford Junction used to be a London Country service. Currently it is operated by Arriva the Shires. The vehicle today is 6004, a DAF SB250 with Alexander ALX400 body.

Dist:0.3km<br/>Junction of the A5 with the A406 North Circular Road. This view shows the slip road from the northbound A5 onto the A406 roundabout. The road deck above on the left of the photo is the A5 itself carrying through traffic. The higher flyover visible on the right is the A406 for through traffic. Everyone else has to fight it out on the roundabout below. Pedestrians get about using a network of footbridges and pelican crossings. The brick arches visible in the distance carry the St.Pancras to Leicester mainline as it passes north of Criclewood towards Hendon.

Dist:0.3km<br/>Staples Corner is named after the Staples Mattress Factory which occupied a building at this junction from 1926 until 1986. The present day Staples office retailer took advantage of a ready made location with great publicity when the area was redeveloped after the IRA bombing of April 1992. This is the eponymous roundabout at the ground level junction of the A406 North Circular Road with the A5 Edgware Road. The main A5 runs on the lower flyover, with the A406 on the higher one to the right.
