Dist:0.2km<br/>The old quarry track heading north-east is dwarfed by the size of this slice off the side of the hill. The Nash Scar is formed of Woolhope limestone which was subsequently fused into one crystalline mass of igneous rock, perhaps the best example of such rock in the UK. This quarry was a major source of crushed rock, but for the time being it seems to be resting.

Dist:0.4km<br/>Looking north-east down the track which leads to the ford, with Nash Wood opposite. The sign reads "Automobile Association. Impracticable for motors. Safety first." with the AA crest at the top. Obviously a vintage sign, showing a deal of rust, but mounted on a very modern post, so nice to see it preserved. The sign is here for good reason because just around the corner is a very tricky ford with no concrete footing.

Dist:0.5km<br/>From the main road looking north-east up the entrance track. Obviously designed to stop people entering and messing about in what is clearly a very dangerous site. The sign on the right reads "£250 reward will be paid to the person or persons providing evidence to the conviction of anyone illegally tipping rubbish or trespassing on property owned by Nash Rocks Ltd". All good stuff, but a shame that this is also the entrance to a public footpath and that Nash Rocks Ltd have provided no such signs when approaching via this footpath from the west. In fact the public footpath direction signs within the quarry site were non-existent, otherwise I might not have strayed so far before realising I had missed this exit!

Dist:0.5km<br/>View westwards over the ice-covered pool to the steep hillside of Knill Wood. The quarry is disused and the pool looks deep and dangerous.
