Dist:0.1km<br/>Looking back from the very effective bar to further navigation, a steel bridge with one end dropped into the canal. Originally this No 2 Line of the Dudley Canal continued another 5 miles through Lapal Tunnel to connect with the Worcester & Birmingham Canal, but the tunnel was closed by persistent mining subsidence.

Dist:0.1km<br/>There are extensive mooring facilities near what is, nowadays, the southern end of the Dudley no 2 Canal. Until 1917, the canal continued through Lapal Tunnel to Selly Oak. The tunnel had always proved operationally troublesome and was affected by subsidence; in any case, there were alternative routes available and following a roof fall it was abandoned. With the cuttings at both ends long since filled in, it has gained an almost mythical status among enthusiasts as the lost tunnel of the canal network. There is some interest in reopening the canal but it is unlikely that the tunnel will ever be used - it would simply be too costly, and an alternative route 'over the top' is being considered.

Dist:0.5km<br/>The dual carriageway of Mucklow Hill cut across the Dudley No. 2 Canal as it headed south. This location, looking north at traffic on Mucklow Hill, marks the northern end of an ambitious restoration scheme for the abandoned canal which not only includes a link under this road, but crossing the Halesowen Bypass and recreating a 3795 yard (around 3.5km) tunnel under the M5 at Lapal.
