This pedestrian tunnel passes underneath to gain access to the Whitehawk area of the town.

Dist:0.1km<br/>The course is in effect a U shape, having started in square TQ3405 it heads north then turns west running parallel with Warren Road, crossing Wilson Avenue before turning south again at this point with 4 furlongs to go. The first grandstand was erected in 1788 and rebuilt over intermittent intervals. To the left of the grandstand is the radio transmitter on Whitehawk Hill to the right, Brighton General Hospital. This building's original function was a Workhouse and was deliberately built on Race Hill as it overlooks central Brighton.

Dist:0.1km<br/>Located in the valley which give a strange perspective when viewed from the steep sides of Race Hill. The transmitter on Whitehawk Hill is visible to the right whilst the white building in the distance is Marine Gate which overlooks Brighton Marina.

Dist:0.3km<br/>Looking down on Brighton and the sea fifteen minutes after sunrise. The two tower blocks on the right are Dudeney Lodge and Nettleton Court which are located in the suburb of Hollingbury, while those to the left near the sea are Sussex Heights and Chartwell Court which are located near to the city centre. The hill to the right in the distance is I believe Lancing Ring. On a clear day the coast line is visible as far as Selsey Bill with the Isle of Wight beyond.

Dist:0.4km<br/>Photo taken about 1 1/2 furlongs from the winning post. The racecourse has a long history, not always glamorous. Graham Greene's Brighton Rock begins here. The traffic seen beyond is travelling to and from Woodingdean.

Dist:0.4km<br/>The tunnel is part of the path from Elm Grove to Whitehawk, an inside picture can be seen at [[52690]] I used to walk through here each day on my way to work, when it was went the tunnel often flooded and it was necessary to walk along a railing through the middle
