Dist:0.2km north<br/>This bridge is situated just north of the Twelvetrees Crescent bridge. I have no idea why this bridge is not in use, as there is no access at all from the strip of land between the old river and the Navigation, to the Twelvetrees bridge.

Dist:0.2km north<br/>Lea Navigation goes from the Thames to the rural peace of Hertfordshire but here at Bow, in the heart of the East End and near the Three Mills Film studios where "Big Brother" is broadcast, people are still hooked on simple pleasures.

Dist:0.2km north<br/>Looking eastwards from its junction with the Old River Lee. This waterway is said to be navigable at high tide for about half a mile as far as the Northern Outfall Sewer. I can think of no reason why anyone would wish to navigate it.

Dist:0.2km north<br/>What could be a useful bridge over to the east side of the Old River Lea, is gated off. This is an example of industrial dereliction at its worst, for there would be no problem for a wiry young nipper bent on vandalism in gaining access onto the bridge. So the message to the appropriate authority is, either restore the bridge or remove it completely.

Dist:0.2km north<br/>Twelvetrees Crescent carries a lot of industrial traffic so this new bridge of two arches was put in. This shows the easterly arch, crossing the old river at the head of Bow Creek.

Dist:0.2km north<br/>Looking south. Many rail tracks cross here: nearest to the camera are the two tracks of London Transport's District Line - Bromley-by-Bow station is about half a mile to the west. Behind are the London Tilbury and Southend lines.

Dist:0.2km north<br/>The rivers and canals on the site of the 2012 Olympics are a haven for wild-life so close to the City. The banks are overgrown with brambles and weeds; there are supermarket trolleys in the mud. It's not pretty - but it does serve a purpose. Scenes like this will disappear when the bulldozers move in.

Dist:0.2km north<br/>Clock Mill is on the right, and House Mill, which dates from 1776, is said to be England's oldest standing mill. It is one of the very few examples of a Tide Mill.

Dist:0.3km north<br/>These locks see little use nowadays as compared with past years. They can only be used near high tide, as if the tide is too low, Bow Creek (seen beyond the locks) would not be navigable. The locks are useful only for (a) craft using Bow Creek to and from the Thames and requiring access to the Lee Navigation, or (b)craft to or from Limehouse Cut wishing to access Abbey Creek, (unlikely!). There is now no access this way to Bow Back Rivers, as Three Mills Sluice is not now navigable. If the high tide is just right, the gates at both ends can be opened allowing craft to pass freely through without stopping!
