Dist:0.6km<br/>This section of "Lord Carlisle's Railway" from Brampton to Lambley dates from 1824 and served the coal mines in the area; it was closed in 1953. The hut may be an original plate layers hut. This stretch of the line has been upgraded to make a good path for walkers and cyclists. It offers cyclists the opportunity to ride for over 4 km from Halton Lea Gate to Tindale away from the A689 and although inadequately signed has been designated as "National Cycle Route 72". All quite misleading - the path is not connected at either end to signed cycle routes, nor does it make any connection with the main strand of Route 72 (Hadrian's Cycleway) some 7 km to the north.

Dist:0.6km<br/>The valley of the Black Burn below Midgeholme Bridge was the site of the earliest coal mining in this area. This structure is an unidentified relic from that era.

Dist:0.7km<br/>This village post office is housed in one of the houses built by the National Coal Board in the 1940s to house miners at the nearby Lambley Colliery. Unfortunately and rather surprisingly, the NCB did not take account of the numerous underground workings in the area, and the houses have been subject to a lot of subsidence. The colliery closed in 1958.
