Dist:0.7km<br/>This area was heavily industrialised and once boasted 5 bridges at this spot, Including the Main Line of the Darlington & Stockton Railway 1887, the other bridges were used to transport slag tubs from the Crusher Plant at Middleton-St-George Iron Works 1860-1947.

Dist:0.7km<br/>The Fighting Cocks (building on the right) was used as a booking office when the Darlington and Stockton Railway opened for passengers in 1825. The railway crossed the road immediately in front of the camera. The track way is now used as a footpath/cycleway.

Dist:0.8km<br/>The Fighting Cocks lies on the intersection of two ancient routes. The first running north/south is the Roman road of Rykenild Street which joined Humberside to Newcastle and crossed the River Tees a mile to the south. The second route is an old drovers road running from Carlisle to Yarm. In 1825 the Fighting Cocks Inn became the booking office of the Stockton to Darlington Railway

Dist:0.8km<br/>This scrapyard was operated by Arnott, Young Ltd, adjacent to the former S&D Railway line behind the Fighting Cocks public house. The main scrap yard is just visible to the left background. The dmu car SC56395, depicted here, remained on site until 1983 when it was re-bogied and travelled to Suffolk for specialist disposal due to blue asbestos contamination.

Dist:0.8km<br/>Photographed during the photographer's National Service (1960). The building, since demolished was protected by a very thick blast wall with sliding steel doors. Apart from the transmitting equipment the place could be self-sufficient in electrical power and had 'residential' accommodation for the technical staff.
