The day after Bournemouth's heaviest snow for 17 years fell overnight, and we have a rare view of snow covering St. Stephen's church and, particularly, the tree alongside.

Looking out from the fourth floor of the Town Hall, we see St. Stephen's Road as it crosses Braidley Road, along with the fine tower of St. Stephen's church. Bournemouth's heaviest snow for 17 years fell overnight. Only now, late afternoon, has the sun weakly come out, just enough to bring the sandstone colour out of the tower.

A fortnight later than much of the country, and a day after the rest of it, Bournemouth finally had its own proper snow today. You have to understand the term 'proper' in local terms – this is not the several inches which brought much of southern England grinding to a standstill yesterday, forcing hundreds to spend their nights in their cars on impassable roads; we are talking about enough that there will still be a visible reminder a couple of hours after it stopped – that's how much Bournemouth needs to call its snow 'proper'. Indeed, it started snowing around 10 o'clock this morning, and this is a similar view to [[1038893]] at half past eleven. The white road and pavement surfaces would already be slushy by 1 o'clock after a lunchtime's footfall, and it stopped just after 5pm.
