Dist:0.1km<br/>A Euston to Glasgow service diverted via the S/C line due to engineering work north of Preston passes Settle Junction signalbox where the line to Carnforth and Lancaster diverges from the Settle to Carlisle line. During times of planned engineering work the S/C has been regularly used as a diversionary route to allow the engineers occupation of the West Coast route.

The Class F train is returning empties to the mines near Kirkby Stephen on the Settle - Carlisle line, headed by Stanier 8F 2-8-0 No. 48758 (built at Doncaster 12/45 and ran on the LNER as O6 No. 3153 (later 3553) until acquired by the LMSR in 9/47, being withdrawn in 12/67.
