This is the boundary between built-up Leeds and open country to the east.

This is an entrance to the former Barnbow Royal Ordnance factory, now Vickers Defence Systems. The gunslits in the wall on the right show that security was once high.

The site is still in use, with smart modern buildings, so it's a shame that Vickers don't keep their back gate tidy.

The Manston has been refurbished several times over the years. Currently, it is a typical modern pub with average beer and lots of TV's.

The Crossgates gasholder (gasometer) is a prominent local landmark, visible for miles around. The contributor has been unable to establish the date of the structure. However, two circular structures are shown on 1894 and 1921 maps, which describe the site as The Crossgates, Halton & Seacroft Gas Company.
The crash barrier in the foreground is in a car park situated on the site of former railway marshalling yard, which among other functions acted as a coal depot for local area and was attached to a nearby coal mine.
