Dist:0.4km<br/>In the 1660's Mansfield became a focus of Nonconformist activity as a result of the 1665 Five Mile Act, under which clergymen who had been expelled from their livings were forbidden to live within 5 miles of any city or parliamentary borough. Although Mansfield was a sizeable and busy town, it was outside the scope of this act. Eight ministers who had been ejected from livings elsewhere sought refuge in Mansfield and established a congregation. The Old Meeting House was built in 1702 and extended in 1870 (a date which features prominently on the drainpipes!) By 1783 the congregation was described as Unitarian, and continues so today. The inside is worth seeing, featuring stained glass attributed to William Morris, and woodwork made from oak reclaimed from one of Mansfield's old windmills. It is the oldest non-conformist place of worship in Nottinghamshire.
