Dist:0.4km north<br/>Although only a small river, the Wheelock is a significant barrier to East - West traffic as it runs in a steep-sided valley that is quite tracky to bridge. A Roman Road apparently crossed the Wheelock a little to the East of this point.

Dist:0.5km north<br/>If you walk this path you can see that this was a carefully made road with good foundations, a smooth surface and edging stones. As it descends from the glacial terrace to the bed of the Wheelock, it cuts through the glacial deposits so there are banks on either side.
