The shadow cast by the bus shelter is about as small as it can be at this latitude, nearly 52 degrees north of the equator. It is near noon sun time (1pm British Summer Time) on June 26th, a few days after the longest day, and hence the highest noontime sun elevation, which today is about 61 degrees above the horizon. Only in the tropics (between 23� 26′ North and 23� 26′ South) is the sun ever directly overhead (elevation 90 degrees).

Don't be misled by the street name. It is a cul-de-sac heading towards the course of a long since dismantled railway. Ffairfach railway station is about 300 metres to the south of the post office, beyond the right edge of the view.
