Dist:0.7km<br/>The site of a lowly Severn Trent sewage works now but in October 1459 these fields in the meadows adjoining the River Teme were occupied by the Yorkist forces before the Battle (some call it the rout) of Ludford Bridge. Casualties were minimal as faced with superior Lancastrian forces the Yorkist leaders under Richard, Duke of York, fled during the night leaving their own army to surrender. Such major reverses were typical of the Wars of the Roses where the fortunes of the two warring factions fighting for the Plantagenet throne consistently waxed and waned.
