Dist:0.1km<br/>The lane just about to enter the Hamlet of Lowgill just over the rise of the hill. The main north/south Roman Road over the Bowland Fells from Ribchester is the mother road of Lowgill, its cottages and buildings ribboned each side of this ancient road. Here the tarmac lane is almost parallel to the Roman Road alignment which is just to the west (left) in the fields. In a short distance over the rise the lane joins this old road alignment, its modern tar above the Roman Road metal that knew ancient soldiers sandal studded boots. Now the ancient way passes four soldiers names of a later age, a small 1914-18 war memorial in Lowgill to the men of the Tatham Fells who once cared for many a sheep and lamb, who knew the freedom of the wild fells only to die in foreign blood soaked mud far from home and the land they loved. This scene was taken Friday 23rd May 2003 late evening.
