The Metropolitan Railway was the first significant development across the agricultural land and the Recreation Ground first appears, in a currently available online map, in the Edition of 1935. The horse chestnut trees on the right are bursting into leaf.

Dist:0.6km north<br/>Viewed looking westwards from the footbridge alongside the A404 road bridge, this is the junction of the Uxbridge branch with the Amersham line. A southbound train from Uxbridge heading towards Baker Street and Aldgate can be seen approaching the footbridge up the incline from West Harrow station.

Dist:0.6km north<br/>West Harrow is on the Metropolitan Line between Harrow-on-the-Hill and Uxbridge, which was opened in 1904. The station here, in The Gardens, was opened in 1913, although the building is obviously completely new.
